Why is she strong?

She was a marine biologist whose work started in the 1950’s, which meant that she had to fight quite a lot of rampant sexism to be taken seriously.  She also did a great deal to help the public image of sharks:  not mindless killers, but rather just very large predatory fish.  She founded what would be named the Mote Marine Laboratory in Florida, which studies sharks, dolphins, and other topics relevant to marine biology.
